Naoya Sugimoto, who belongs to the main kitchen of the cooking department, won the "Grand Prize (Prime Minister's Award)" and "Hidee Award", the highest honors in the individual competition, at the "Ice Sculpture World Competition" held in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
This tournament is the only international ice sculpture competition held in Japan, and Sugimoto used 8 icicles (about 1 ton) to compete in an individual competition to compete in technical ability, artistry, and perfection in a limited competition time. The award-winning work "First Bicycle" is a work that expresses the dynamism and joy of the moment your child starts pedaling a bicycle with ice.
