An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a medical device that delivers an electric shock to restore normal heart rhythm when ventricular fibrillation occurs, a condition in which the ventricles of the heart contract irregularly and are unable to pump blood.
Since July 2004, it has been approved not only for medical professionals but also for the general public.
