TOKYU HOTELS became the first hotel chain in Japan to become a member of GSTC
~Participating in the International Framework for Sustainable Tourism and Deepening Sustainability Initiatives~

TOKYU HOTELS & RESORTS CO., LTD.

TOKYU HOTELS & RESORTS CO., LTD. (Tokyo Shibuya-ku, President & CEO: Takashi Takei announced that on February 17, 2026, it has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council® ("GSTC"), which sets international standards for sustainable travel and tourism. As a hotel chain in Japan, "TOKYU HOTELS" is the first time that all stores have joined GSTC members.

GSTC is an international non-profit organization established in 2007 with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism, and manages the GSTC Criteria, which is a global standard in the tourism industry. This standard is used for international accreditation of sustainable tourism certification bodies and as a guideline for sustainable tourism destinations around the world.

The environment surrounding the tourism industry is moving to a stage where more comprehensive sustainability is required, including relationships with local communities, consideration for human rights and working environment, and transparency in governance, in addition to reducing environmental impact. We believe that it is important to accept these changes and improve the quality of hotel management while using international standards and advanced practices as a basis for learning. This membership of the GSTC is positioned as the first step for "TOKYU HOTELS" to continuously review and develop its own initiatives within the international framework, while being exposed to the latest discussions and knowledge surrounding sustainable tourism.

Going forward, we will refer to the international standards indicated by the GSTC to promote understanding within the company, develop human resources, and gradually promote the visualization and sophistication of initiatives at each hotel. In addition, through collaboration with local communities, local governments, and partners, we intend to contribute to improving the sustainability of Japan's tourism industry as a whole.

TOKYU HOTELS & Resorts will steadily advance initiatives to realize sustainable tourism through hotel management that works together with the local community.

TOKYU HOTELS 's environmental conservation efforts across the hotel chain

  • Green Coin System: We donate the amount of unused amenities during your stay at the hotel (implemented since 2001).

  • Earth Friendly Stay/Green Card: We ask guests staying multiple nights to cooperate in minimizing room cleaning and linen changes, in order to reduce the resources used for cleaning.

TOKYU HOTELS & Resorts President Takashi Takei

Joining the GSTC is also a great responsibility for us. This is not just a way to prove that we are "skilled," but rather a declaration of our determination to continue to hone ourselves in accordance with international standards and diverse values. We will continue to sincerely pursue the role we must play as a hotel operator so that Japanese tourism will continue to be trusted and chosen by the world.
