"A hotel that is kind to the earth, the city and people"
Our Hotel Initiatives
The world's first hydrogen hotel
Since its opening in 2018, the hotel has been working with Resonac Inc. under Kawasaki City's "Waterfront Vision" and "Kawasaki Hydrogen Strategy" to participate in the Ministry of the Environment's "Regional Collaboration and Low-Carbon Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Project."
The demonstration project will end in March 2022, and from September 2023, we will introduce a 50kW pure hydrogen stationary FC power generation system manufactured by Meiji Electric Industry Co., Ltd. and continue hydrogen power generation as a "hydrogen hotel."
Introduction of food recycling
In 2019, we introduced a "food recycling" program to reuse food waste and convert it into energy, and have achieved a recycling rate of 100% of the food waste generated at the hotel.
We are participating in an initiative to generate electricity using biogas generated by the methane fermentation of food waste, run by J Bio Food Recycle Co., Ltd. By purchasing and using electricity generated from this food waste, we have established a system for "utilizing local recycled energy."
Using CO2-free electricity
Leaf lettuce cultivation
Leaf lettuce is grown in order to realize a low-carbon society (reducing CO2 emissions) by using electricity derived from food waste not only to run the hotel but also to grow plants. By shining red and blue LEDs alternately in an environment with a temperature of 22-26 degrees and a humidity of 60-80%, the lettuce grows quickly and large, and it takes 30-40 days from sowing to harvest, with about 40 heads being harvested per week. The harvested lettuce is served at the hotel restaurant.
Biodegradable Amenities
We have introduced amenities that use Kaneka's biodegradable biopolymer Green Planet®.
Green Planet is a material that biodegrades in seawater and contributes to reducing marine pollution. Kaneka's philosophy of "Kaneka makes the world healthy. KANEKA thinks 'Wellness First'" is a good fit for our company, which promotes itself as a "hotel that is kind to the earth, the city, and people." This is why we decided to adopt this product.
Upcycling amenities
Used toothbrush handles and hairbrushes made from Kaneka's biodegradable biopolymer Green Planet® have been upcycled using Asahi Yuasa's technology into coasters, which are placed in the hotel's guest rooms and cafe.
We have provided collection boxes for used amenities on the guest room floors, so please cooperate during your stay.
Collection of bottle caps, used hairbrushes, and toothbrushes
The collected bottle caps will be sold as recycled materials, and all profits from their sale will be donated to the effort to provide vaccines to children around the world.
Donations will be transformed into vaccines that will be administered to children in Myanmar, Laos, Bhutan and Vanuatu.
Our hotel collects plastic bottle caps and used hairbrushes and toothbrushes (only those distributed by the hotel) and
We strive to protect the environment and contribute to society.
What a cup of coffee can do.
"Ogawa Coffee" introduced
For the sake of the future of delicious coffee, we have introduced coffee beans from Ogawa Coffee, which is also focusing on activities to protect the natural environment of the earth and maintain a sustainable society. The coffee used in our hotel rooms, cafe, and restaurant is Ogawa Coffee's internationally fair trade certified coffee.
Installation of a water server
We have installed water servers on each floor and discontinued the free mineral water provided in guest rooms. This has enabled us to reduce the amount of plastic bottle waste by approximately 20,000 bottles per year. We also use eco-friendly "Forest Tumblers" to carry water from the water servers to guest rooms. These cups are eco-friendly cups that use 55% cellulose fiber, a raw material derived from wood.
Collection of disposable chopsticks
We are sympathetic to the recycling program of "ChopValue Japan," which also has a "small-scale factory (microfactory)" in Kawasaki City, and instead of disposing of used disposable chopsticks at breakfast in the restaurant on the 5th floor, we collect them and donate them as resources. The donated chopsticks are upcycled into "premium" wooden furniture that is stronger than conventional wood and has less CO2e emissions.
Creating sustainable hotels
TOKYU HOTELS has defined three sustainability goals (visions) and six key sustainability themes (social issues that we will focus on), and will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through its hotel business, with a deep awareness of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
