Published in October 2004, it will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024, with 17 works in the series and a total circulation of 1.7 million copies. It will be adapted into an anime in June 2020.
It is loved by children in kindergartens and nursery schools across the country, as well as in countries all over the world, including Korea, China, France, India, and Vietnam.
In the story, when someone is doing something wasteful, "Mottainai Grandma" comes and says, "What a waste!"
This work conveys the intention and importance of taking good care of things, and allows children to learn about "mottainai" in a fun way.
