Nagano will introduce an accommodation tax from Monday, June 1, 2026, with the aim of using it to cover expenses required for enhancing tourism resources, improving the environment for tourists, and other measures to promote tourism.
The hotel will also charge accommodation tax for stays on or after the same day.
■ Taxation start date
For stays from Monday, June 1, 2026 onwards
*Even if you have made a reservation and paid in advance before the same date, if the stay date is after June 1st, it will be subject to tax.
■ Tax amount
・300 yen per person per night
・For the first three years of the program (June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2029), the fee will be 200 yen per person per night.
■ Duty free points
No tax will be charged if the accommodation fee (room only, excluding tax) is less than 6,000 yen per person per night.
■ Tax exemption
In the following cases, tax exemption will be granted upon submission of a certificate from the school principal or facility director.
・Kindergarten, elementary school, or university accommodation for educational or research activities
・When staying overnight as part of an event hosted by a facility such as a nursery school
・When staying overnight as part of an event hosted by a free school certified by the head of a local government or the Board of Education
■ Payment of accommodation tax
As a general rule, this fee will be collected at check-in.
However, this may vary depending on how you make your reservation, so please contact your travel agency or booking site for details.
