Moonlight
This is a classic kōdan (traditional Japanese storytelling) performance featuring Beethoven, known as the "musical genius." Beethoven returns to his hometown of Bonn after a long absence. There, he meets a young woman, and the story takes an unexpected turn. While it is a traditional Japanese storytelling art, the fact that the protagonist is a figure representative of Western music is one of its charms. With a beautiful, humorous, and easy-to-understand story, it is a performance that can be enjoyed even by those who are listening to kōdan for the first time.
Tanosuke's Prosthetic Leg Play
Sawamura Tanosuke was a renowned actor who took the kabuki world by storm as a female impersonator during the late Edo period. An accident on stage one day leads Tanosuke, who was active on the glamorous stage, down a path of unexpected destiny. Based on historical facts in the kabuki and medical worlds of the time, this performance offers not only the enjoyment of being immersed in the drama but also the pleasure of learning about the historical context and little-known history.
