Stargazing at Olive Garden

On a clear day, the garden commands a view of the Izu Islands, including Niijima and Shikinejima, on the horizon. Olive garden sits at the very front of the garden.
On the left is the Susaki Peninsula, on the right is Cape Noroizaki, and in the center is Oura Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
At night, you can see a wide range of moon and stars.

Find Orion and the Winter Triangle

Orion

There are three stars lined up in the belt of Orion, a character in Greek mythology, and diagonally across from them are the blue first-magnitude star Rigel and the orange first-magnitude star Betelgeuse.

Sirius

The brightest star shining below Orion is Sirius in the constellation Canis Major.

Winter Triangle

If you connect the orange first magnitude star Sirius in Orion and Procyon in Canis Minor, you will get the "Winter Triangle." Canis Minor is on the left side of Orion.

Scorpio

The S-shaped constellation Scorpio lies near the horizon. Try to find the red 1st magnitude star Antares in Scorpio.

Summer Triangle

Find the summer 1st magnitude stars Vega, Altair, and Deneb shining high overhead.
Vega is the star of Orihime on Tanabata, and Altair is the star of Hikoboshi (Altair).

The Six Stars of Nanto

Sagittarius is located in the area where the Milky Way appears brighter and wider than the other areas. Look for the ladle-shaped constellation Nanto Six Stars.

Planet Observation

Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars are bright and easy to see.
It's not on a star chart, so you can check its location using a smartphone app.
